An obnoxious, self-centered view on what-a-bitch life can be.....

The Barwon river has overflowed its banks! It was quite a spectacle yesterday at the Barwon as we rocked up to find the docks under-water and the boat ramp completely submerged, all due to the storm we had last Wednesday. The car park was covered in mud and it looked like wakeboarding would be cancelled. But with Steve's enthusiasm leading the way; "don't be a lesbian Lem, wakeboarding's an extreme sport", we decided to give it a go.

The first challenge was to launch the boat, which I must say we handled pretty well. Next task was to bring the boat in close enough to land without hitting any rocks or the bank. I had the all important task to determine where the bank was, so I could guide the boat in without hitting the river bank.

One step, two steps (water level at my ankles), three steps ( water level at my knees), four steps (still at my knees), five steps (whoooosh- I'm submerged up to my neck). "Grrrr... it's here"

After all that, I thought we could start enjoying ourselves. But despite the sunny weather, the water hadn't warmed up and the thermometer was reading a cool 11 degrees! 5 minutes into wakeboarding and I couldn't feel my fingers, my toes had turned blue and was seriously contemplating whether I should call it a day.

4 runs later.... I walked away with another sprained ankle, badly bruised shin, twisted left knee (never done this before so a completely new feeling of pain), bruised and cut right foot (cos of the bloody bindings), sprained neck, sunburnt face and general feeling of "shittiness" all over. Looks like I'll have to give wakeboarding a break for a couple of weeks....

There was a happy ending to all this, Bubble's birthday party! We had a BBQ in the evening to celebrate her 1st birthday. Turn out was pretty good and she had a few dogs to keep her company as well. Mika, Kenji, Romeo and Summer (in descending order of size) all came to join in the festivities. It seems like yesterday when she was just a pup, no bigger than the size of my palm. Happy Birthday Bubbles!
