I was glued to the TV for most part of yesterday evening, trying to piece together the snippets of information provided by the various channels... ITV, BBC, CNN... a manic state of confusion. I think we all knew it was an act of terror, well before it was officially announced. In a way, alot of people were expecting the next 9/11, it wasn't a case of if it would happen again, but rather where and when. The London bombings have restated a sense of fear and uncertainty in many hearts and even makes me think about the possibility of one such attack here in Australia; and how I would respond to it.
My prayers go out to the family and friends of lost loved ones. Over 50 people were killed and many more injured. The puzzling thing is, why does it take a terrorist act for all to rally together, when there are thousands of people dying of poverty and disease everyday? People are more inclined toward helping the victims of a terrorist act rather than donating towards an honest charity. Are we living in denial, conveniently ignoring the fact that there are helpless people out there that could do with some help. The distance allows us this luxury of shutting our minds to the reality of third world countries. What we can't see can't hurt us. In contrast, we get emotional and stirred up when an act of terror occurs in our cities. Why? Cos we might be next....
On a lighter note, got awoken by the postman this morning... an hour before my "wake-up" time.. but it was well worth getting out of bed for.. thanks kiddo!!
